Hi all,

Thanks for all the informative responses

I managed to configure it this way, but I still have questions

Linux
eth0 65.202.10.11 assigned by DHCP (Cable Modem)
eth0:1 192.128.1.1

Win95
ip (static) 192.128.1.5
Gateway 192.128.1.1

ipfwadm -F -p deny
ipfwadm -F -a 192.128.1.0/24 -D0.0.0.0/0
route add -net 192.168.1.0

How does NIC aliasing actually work? Have any www links on the technical
implementation of aliasing? I know that a NIC see every packet on the
segment it is attached too. I just don't know the technical details of
aliasing.

I know other cable modem users cannot see me even if i had shares because my
cable modem connection is a encrypted point to point link with the cable
router. That's why i have resorted to ip masq. Cannot have two computers
using one cable modem.

I would agree, to make everything tightly secure a second NIC would do this
and I thought aliasing would provide me with a better than nothing solution
while not jeopardizing security. How would I test to see if my internal net
is at risk?
