The reality, as opposed to the ideal, is that there are no forces in Ukraine today, even in embryo, which in any way resemble the left-led 20th century movements which defeated Western imperialism. So why should it much matter to the Ukrainian and Russian masses whether the labour and resources of the disputed territories are exploited by Russian or by Ukrainian and Western corporations backed by their respective capitalist states? You wouldn’t know it from the passionate encouragement of the Ukrainian war effort by Western liberals and socialists, but that has been the only certain outcome from the beginning. While the truth or falsity of the Russian claim that its invasion was provoked by NATO encroachment may be an important consideration from the standpoint of morality and international law, it is still a secondary one weighed against the wholly negative effect of the war on the political consciousness and material interests of the working class in Ukraine especially but also more generally in Russia and throughout Europe. . -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
