It shouldn't be necessary to remind you that it's a method of analysis not a 
dogma and as such you can come to a conclusion which is inconsistent with your 
longings and preconceptions.  Like any methodology, it's a tool which is 
available for use across the political spectrum. You might recall that  the 
historian Richard Hofstatder once dubbed John Calhoun as the "Marx of the 
master class" not because the southern reactionary was a socialist but because 
of the primacy he gave to the underlying social and economic factors in his 
defence of slavery.

BTW, I don't discount the possibilty and think it's quite likely that the 
socialist movement will revive if the system collapses. You're deluding 
yourself in believing it still exists as the material force it once was.
