And in response to Roger Kulp, whatever the original history of the Russian
Revolution, it is fair to say that Stalinist repression fell heavily on workers
and peasants. Is there anyone else on the planet who killed more Communists?
Never mind the majority of the Bolshevik Central Committee of 1917. Even the
majority of delegates to the 1934 congress of the CPSU fell afoul of Stalin in
one way or another.

We can start with Nazi Germany ,then move on to the Spanish Civil War, what
was done in Argentina and Chile under Operation Condor, Indonesia under
Suharto, the Jeju and Bodo League killings in Korea, with honorable mention to
Caing Kai-Shek, and Thailand in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Roger’s comment has prompted me to do some research. For the most part I have
been unable to come up with numbers. But in one case I have, the case of
Indonesia 1965-66.

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_mass_killings_of_1965%E2%80%9366>
"The most widely published estimates were that 500,000 to more than one million
people were killed,[3]

with some more recent estimates going as high as two to three million.”

Given the number reported for Indonesia, it looks like I cannot defend my claim
that Stalin killed more communists than anyone else.
I have been unable to come up with a figure for the number of Communists killed
by Stalin. The closest I came was the speech by Khrushchev in 1956. He
accused Stalin of “mass terror” directed at members of the CPSA. He referred
to “thousands" of party members killed by Stalin.

It was determined that of the 139 members and candidates of the Central
Committee who were elected at the 17th Congress, 98 persons, i.e., 70 per cent,
were arrested and shot (mostly in 1937-1938). (Indignation in the hall.) What
was the composition of the delegates to the 17th Congress? It is known that 80
per cent of the voting participants of the 17th Congress joined the Party
during the years of conspiracy before the Revolution and during the Civil War,
i.e. meaning before 1921. By social origin the basic mass of the delegates to
the Congress were workers (60 per cent of the voting members).

For this reason, it is inconceivable that a Congress so composed could have
elected a Central Committee in which a majority [of the members] would prove to
be enemies of the Party. The only reasons why 70 per cent of the Central
Committee members and candidates elected at the 17th Congress were branded as
enemies of the Party and of the people were because honest Communists were
slandered, accusations against them were fabricated, and revolutionary legality
was gravely undermined.

The same fate met not only Central Committee members but also the majority of
the delegates to the 17th Party Congress. Of 1,966 delegates with either voting
or advisory rights, 1,108 persons were arrested on charges of
anti-revolutionary crimes, i.e., decidedly more than a majority. This very fact
shows how absurd, wild and contrary to common sense were the charges of
counterrevolutionary crimes made out, as we now see, against a majority of
participants at the 17th Party Congress.

According to Wikipedia,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/17th_Congress_of_the_All-Union_Communist_Party_(Bolsheviks)

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/17th_Congress_of_the_All-Union_Communist_Party_(Bolsheviks)>
at the time of the 1934 congress the CPSU had 1,872,488 members and 935,298
candidate members. We don’t know if the death toll among members was in the
same proportion as that among Congress delegates and Central Committee members.
