My copy of Mac alpine, compiled from the most recent source, insists on sending me off to Google's cloud web site which finally dies on a redirect to a localhost URL. I know what's going on, they expect the client program to be running a tiny web server on localhost to collect the credentials, but it doesn't work. I have an app password but I can't get Alpine to ask for it. As soon as it sees imap.gmail.com it does the other stuff.
