The reason they want you to do this is so they can rotate the key in the future (changing their TXT record) if needed, without all their customers having to update the same TXT record in their own DNS. Many companies work this way.

The CNAME will point to a DNS TXT entry on their end. But you should tell us *exactly* what the full instructions from Ionos were. Without that, we're just guessing.

If you copy someone's TXT record like this, it will eventually get out-of-sync when the original is changed, so that is unlikely to be optimal.

Again, though, what did Ionos actually say about the CNAME? What target value did they say to use, for example?
