I find the Notes mail client to be barely usable. It seems to allow an
incredible amount of customization and automation, still I struggle with
some apparently very simple thing. But it may be just me not being able
to configure it to do what I would like it to do.

The fact that the client user interface localization (I have been told)
depends on some server side configuration that is initialized with the
language used by the client that first connects to the account, but that
is not exposed to the client thereafter, to me is telling of an (at
least) very abstruse design.

The fact that it has the look and feel of an application of the early
'90es does not really help me to like it (and I am an Emacs user...).

Where should I be looking for help?

The things I would like to do are very basic. For example:

- is there a way to have an external application link to a specific
email message?

- is there a way to convince Notes to mark messages as read when
visualized from the overview panel, instead than having to opening them,
or using the idiotic keyboard shortcut? I would like to know who thought
that Insert was a good choice for this.

- is there a way to archive a message, namely move it to an Archive/YYYY
folder with an handy keyboard shortcut? I think the move to folder part
can be scripted somehow, but I don't think there is a way to assign
keyboard shortcuts to user actions.

- more generically, is there a way to modify keyboard shortcuts?

Cheers,
Dan
