At the time, I don't think any mail clients actually supported List-Unsubscribe, so it was mostly just to encourage eventual adoption anyways.
In any case, it's way past time that it was made to work correctly, I've filed a bug against the groups team to that affect, but I would expect a proper solution to take some time. The mailto/email based version should work, and it's the one that's used in the footer. Brandon
