This happens with messages received from iPhone Mail.
When I attempt to reply, the body of the message is blank/empty. The
original message/thread is gone. Creating a message that appears to
be new and not a reply.
Cannot reproduce as described...
I attempted to begin a draft on my phone using Mail and Preside
saving it to drafts. Returning to my computer using MailmMte I opened
the draft "Edit as New Message..." MailMate retrieved this message
without rendering the draft for editing:
"Sorry, MailMate was unable to derive a plain text part when creating
this email."
"Edit as New Message" is not a reply, it is (in this case) an attempt
by MailMate to adopt a message saved as a draft by another program,
which is unreliable at best.
The message appears as usual in the Inbox. It's the reply that goes
blank.
Anyone else having this issue? Have a solution?
The solution is to not expect any mail client to understand how other
mail clients construct incomplete drafts. Mail.app in particular may
create unusual MIME structures when replying to HTML mail which other
clients may not be able to transform into their own idea of what a
reply does to the original content.
To follow on to what Bill wrote, rather than save the message on your
iPhone as a draft, try sending it to yourself, and then reply or edit as
new message in MailMate.
