Following up on Robert’s post…
Once you double (single) click on a specific subject in the view list, note that M-M also generates a smart mailbox for that subject (with responses) and opens up the threading so all can be seen. Up to you to save as a mailbox or cancel the view.

You can view the settings there (Details) to check out the setting for the Mailbox created, before saving. This should give you some clues to creating a generalized subject sort to your preferences. Have fun!
