I guess simply installing and giving away a Linux distribution is not gonna
make any change in reality,There must some reason for the people to use
Linux, for instance as far as the kids considered ,if a ub3r l33t computer
game is coded exclusively in Linux ,using Linux extended graphics
capabilities, they will try to get that operating system installed, and
unknowingly they will start using Linux. So my point is *there must be a
reason for the people to use Linux* ,honestly no one can deny the fact
that the user experience windows providing is still in the top.
I am a regular windows xp user(because i am doing my research in win32
stuffs) and In my house i got one machine installed with plain linux, just
used vanila kernel ,and build stuffs like bin-utils etc from source, and
installed kde as the graphical environment, and of course compiz fusion
too,and a wide variety of entertainment softwares,pdf readers,open office
and a lot of stuffs. So my point is that whenever younger kids in the family
visit the house they wont go to windows machine, rather they will turn on
this particular system which is satisfying all of their needs without any
problems
And i seen a lot of hate towards windows by open source groups around the
globe even from 1995 or such, but honestly i think people who played with
linux and
windows internally would say both operating systems got its own advantages
and dis-advantages,and the way to promote linux is to make applications
which must be unique to Linux
