Hello Mr. Arun n Mr.Priyadarshan Roy
Sorry to say but your emails sounds like there is
nothing happening at ILUG Cochin and mettings and
discussions are useless . I disagree with those points
. First of all I fear you are not aware of things
happening at ILUG and the discussions .
Regarding spreading of Linux / Opnesource in Cochin
Lug members had a lot discussion and planned lot
things on this . Of course some of the big plans like
conducting an EXPO etc are not turned to reality yet ,
but there are reasons behind it . Just 4 or 5 people
can't do such things . Lug need the support of all the
members to do it . Even the discussions over mailing
list is not happening much and do you expect lot lug
members to come forward and conduct awareness programs
? Also , do you think there is nobody tryin to spread
Linux / opensource ? Sorry to say that you are wrong
. There are lot Lug members who are doing this .
Personally speaking JJ , Balakrishnan sir , Satheesh ,
Students from Cusat etc are doing a nice work for the
community . They are spending a lot of time , effort
and money to help the community grow . That of course
involves spreading of Linux in and around cochin .I
remember Balakrishnan sir designed a cool poster and
we took photostat copies of that and placed it in many
places . Cusat students are also distiributing CDs ,
trying lot things etc .
ILUG site , mailing list and Lug meetings are great
ways of spreading linux . That is not just a 'forum
for group discussion ' . And when people are not even
attending the meetings and not ready to come and join
to help the community ( the iniative part is always
there ) , do you think there will be big changes ?
What do you suggest as an altenative to the Lug
meetings ? If the meetings are also stopped the
complete activity may die out soon !
Regarding the user-friendly OS versions and
Installations
I rarely attend the LUG meetings . But I never think
its a wastage of time , actually I consider it as a
precious time to be with all Lug members . I really
miss it ! The discussions about NASA is not a bad
thing . Thats is a nice example which can be
implemented here . I mean not exactly as in NASA . We
can make people think like ' If people in NASA relie
on Opensource / Linux , why not we ? ' . Then the
installations . I think we will never need a demo on
RH , but demonstrating how to install Debian is really
useful and it will sure help those who attend the
meeting and they can sure tell this to all others .
Regarding Linux Classes
You are not aware of the classes ? Contact Balakrishna
sir or JJ for more details .
Our valuable suggestions ( as Max wrote ,
'implementable ' ) will always help LUG and the
community . There are people already taking initiative
and they are doing many things to help Linux /
Opensource grow .
Best Regards
Din.
