I Think this card is supported by X-windows, by the way which distributio= n you=20 are using. =20 Recently I purchased a new motherboard VIA M7VKQ with on board display, s= ound=20 etc. Installed Debian GNU/Linux. Everything is OK except for the fact tha= t I=20 when i switch to xwindows (ALT+F7) from text mode the screen goes blank. = A=20 little bit enquiry revealed that the display chipset used in the mother b= oard=20 is Trident Cyberblade i/1 and a suitable driver is availabel only in the=20 Xserver 4.2.XX. (The default x server with woody is 4.1.xx). I upgraded m= y=20 xserver to 4.2XX and the problem is solved. =20 Hardware manufacturers provide drivers and other details so that their pr= oduct=20 runs well under Microsoft Windows. (please note that the default installa= tion=20 of Microsoft windows supports only 16 colors. One have to update the sys= tem=20 with the drivers supplied by the manufacturer of the motherboard/display = card=20 etc. ). I think, if there is enough for demand for linux/X-windows=20 compatability , the hardware manufacturers will provide it (note that alm= ost=20 all ethernet cards comes with support for GNU/Linux.). =20 So my decission, not to buy, in future, any comomputer components unles= s=20 Linux/X-windows support is available.
