You have the inbuilt Zoom and ZoomText. For the moment, ZoomText magnification
have sharper font smoothing i.e. you can increase text size and still have very
sharp and clear text. Better than Zoom. Then again, i thought Zoom magnifyed an
Adobe Flash Air program (streaming music) with clearer and sharper font
smoothing. Full screen view both magnification programs. Also Zooms follows
gmail table contents like subject, date and time row and column. Zoom Text do
not, but you can hear Voice Over. When typing this mail Zoom Text also folws
the text while i am typing. I strongly recommend to get used to full screen
mode in use with Voice Over, but some may sat the same that they strongly
recommend other Zooming option.

Voice Over have a built in beautiful feature that magnify only the area that
the the square marker are marking. For example the button «Continue». At the
same tim the other text is not magnified. This means, you have a close up of
the whole scree while just one word is magnified. I am not comfortable with
this feature, but it is fantastic for some other vision impaired mac users.
Open Voice Over utilities by hit vo + f8, hit command + 7, tab to the tab
«voice over marker», place a checkmark on «show Voice Over marker», go down to
marker magnification, hit vo - shift + arrow down to interact with the slider
to your likings and go further down to chose the Voice Over marker to enlarge
word for word or sentence for sentence and you are done.

Take care

This is on Mavericks. Open System Preferences, Accessibility, and select Zoom
from the table of items. The laptop I looked at has "full screen" set for the
zoom style, instead of "picture in picture". Basically, with no settings
touched at all, enabling Zoom should enlarge everything. Yes, most apps allow
you to zoom, but that is not the same and will not affect the menu and dock
sizes. Zoom itself, in System Preferences or cmd-option-8, will.
