Thanks, good to know the web interface is usable. I'm trying to enable iCloud 
mail, but System Preferences just sits there telling me to wait. It's been 
there for an hour now, so I'm going to force quit it and try again. Annoying. 
Anyway, at least I know I can access the website once I get this working.
