Hello April,

I can understand your frustration. It took me 4 months to learn how to do
anything on the Mac. I do agree, there is a degree that you will have to learn
things on your own. But here are a few pointers.

Asuming Voiceover is on and running, and working right. As mentioned when you
press VO it is the two keys at the left of the spacebar. At the left of the
spacebar, there is cmd, then options, then ctrl then FM key at the very left.
So if both Options, and ctrl key is pressed, and do another key like left or
right arrow for navigation or press spacebar to select that is a Voiceover
command.

When you are surfing Safari here are some pointers.

VO and L takes you directly to the address bar. once you type what you want or
search, press enter.

Now if you hit VO and right or left arrow you can navigate around the app. To
go into the Toolbar you will have to Interact, which is VO shift down arrow,
then you can navigate left or right using VO left or right arrow.

Once you are done, to deinteract press VO shift Up arrow.

Now to get to the acuall webpage, VO right arrow until the very end and it says
HTML and you need to interact by pressing VO shift down arrow.

Once you are in the webpage you can navigate by Links, Headings, or jump to
text fields, there are other ways to jump around but those are the first basic
you will need to use. I for one use the rotor command to get my rotor command
like jump by heading or links, but I don’t know the keyboard command.

Also if you want to get to the Menu, press VO m, and to get to menu extra press
VO and press m twice.

One thing that helped me advance using Voiceover is not to look at the screen.
For those that rely on vision, they will never will truly learn to rely on
screen readers.I hope this will help some. I would very much recommend to get
used to Voiceover preferences and understand what they do. To use a
screenreader, it is a steep learning curve, but the payoff is worth it.
