I don't seem to be able to import audio files (.m4a) files that I recorded with Voice Memos app on the iPhone into Garageband. I locate them in the media browser after having first imported them iTunes. I copy them and then paste them onto a track. GB says there is a region on the track, but won't give any audio when I hit play. I also tried converting the file to .wav first, then copying and pasting, but still no joy. I can play audio through the software grand piano track in the same project, so audio seems to work, just not for my audio regions.
