No boot up sound even? There is a rather lengthy thread about the
internal speakers going away and how they were fixed here:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4277327?start=0&tstart=0
It includes everything from repeatedly plugging and unplugging the
headphones, poking the headphone jack with a toothpick, resetting the
SMC and one person even had their mainboard replaced (under warranty).

I don't believe you can uninstall your internal speakers. Are you running any
extra sound stuff like audio hijack or soundflower? Does a restart bring
everything back?

Hello group; last night my speakers stopped working. I can still get sound
through the headphones. when i go to system preferences under sound it
doesn't give me the option of choosing internal speakers. how can i find out
if they are broken or simply uninstalled. And if they are uninstalled how do i
get them back? thanks, max
