I think the purpose of the DOS is the show you where the cursor is. I've 
experimented turning that off as well. However, I find that I like having it on 
because then I know for certain where the cursor is actually located. The other 
option you have is to have a blank. That might be worth trying. And you 
wouldn't see the dots. I think I may have missed dictated. What I'm trying to 
say is the third option is a blinking cursor. I may try that myself.
