Okay. Here's a follow-up. I had to close mail and reopen it again with VO off. then, things seemed to work. so, I tried reordering the mailbox I was talking about. the same thing happened. the box appeared to move, but eventually came to rest where it had been. I have some vision and could see this. thereafter, it was impossible to open any mail with VO on. I quit VO and quit mail, which took a very long time. then, I restarted mail and turned VO on. Now, everything seems to work okay. I just have to forget about moving any mailboxes around. Incidentally, I'm doing this with the latest version of Lion. I should have mentioned that before.
