you could try booting into safe mode, then restarting normally. Safe Mode is not accessible with VO, but booting into safe mode by itself fixes many system glyches. Or, you could try fixing disk permissions from the recovery partition.

And what's strange, is that when I close out of a new window in finder then try to launch the computer icon again, it relaunches whatever finder window I had open before I closed it to go back to the desktop, which it's never done before

I've just noticed last night, that for some reason when I do the "command+shift+c," command to bring up the computer ikon, it doesn't come up, but instead it shifts focus away from the finder window and takes me to whatever I was in previously. So now I can't access my drives, or anything else, which is really disturbing, so I'd love to know if anyone else has had this problem.
