Gavin, It didn't quite work out that way on my system. I'm running ML 10.8.2 on a new iMac, and this is what happens when I follow your instructions: 1) I deleted the apple loops index folder, being required to enter my password at the prompt. 2) I open GarageBand, and am immediately asked for administrator password. I assume because GB needs to rebuild the loop index. In fact, I checked in finder and the apple loops index folder was created after GB opened - it did it automatically. 3) I open the loop browser, but it isn't empty. It has the same loops it did before I deleted the index, which was the basic stuff +jam pack 1 and the rhythm section jam pack that I had manually drag n' dropped on the browser a few days earlier.
So, I just don't know how one is to remove loops from the browser for a clean install of the packs if deleting the index doesn't do the trick. I had been just removing the jam pack folders from the Apple Loops folder and that seemed to do the trick, but not completely. I'm going to manually drop the individual jam pack folders onto the browser as I did before. When I do this, I'm asked if I want to overwrite the existing jam packs (if any exist) I'm getting a little tired so this may sound like a ramble. Appreciate any insights. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gavin Grundlingh To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, December 31, 2012 4:06 PM Subject: Re: GarageBand loop browser index Hi Phil, I also recently used MainStage to get the extra loops, but they didn't show up in GarageBand on my system, either. Here's what I did to get them there: 1. In Finder, go to /Library/Audio. Note that I'm talking about the Library folder in the root of your startup disk, and not your user library filder. 2. Delete the "Apple Loops Index" folder entirely. Since you are deleting something out of a system folder, you will be asked to authenticate this action. 3. Now, open GarageBand, and press Command_L to open the loop browser. You should get a message telling you that no Apple loops are installed, just hit OK. 4. Go back to Finder, interact with whatever view it is you use, highlight the "Apple Loops" folder, press Control-Option-Command-F5 to move your mouse to that item, then press Control-Option-Command-Shift-Space to lock the left mouse button on it. 5. Command-Tab back to GarageBand, interact with the loop browser, and move to the right until you hear "empty table". 6. Press Control-Option-Command-Shift-Space again. You should be told that GarageBand wants to make changes. Enter your password and hit Enter. That's it. VoiceOver will say "GarageBand busy" for a few seconds while your index is being rebuilt. Hope this helps. I just recently installed all the GB Jampacks via the MainStage app, and the files are there, but GB doesn't see all of them. For example, there are 28 "cheerful Mandolin" loops, but GB is only seeing one of them. I can preview all 28 loops in finder, but not in GB Is there a way to rebuild GB's loop index?
