Hi Phil, I also recently used MainStage to get the extra loops, but they didn't show up in GarageBand on my system, either. Here's what I did to get them there:
1. In Finder, go to /Library/Audio. Note that I'm talking about the Library folder in the root of your startup disk, and not your user library filder. 2. Delete the "Apple Loops Index" folder entirely. Since you are deleting something out of a system folder, you will be asked to authenticate this action. 3. Now, open GarageBand, and press Command_L to open the loop browser. You should get a message telling you that no Apple loops are installed, just hit OK. 4. Go back to Finder, interact with whatever view it is you use, highlight the "Apple Loops" folder, press Control-Option-Command-F5 to move your mouse to that item, then press Control-Option-Command-Shift-Space to lock the left mouse button on it. 5. Command-Tab back to GarageBand, interact with the loop browser, and move to the right until you hear "empty table". 6. Press Control-Option-Command-Shift-Space again. You should be told that GarageBand wants to make changes. Enter your password and hit Enter. That's it. VoiceOver will say "GarageBand busy" for a few seconds while your index is being rebuilt. Hope this helps.
