You can, especially if you have an iPod and want to listen somewhere you don't have wifi. The big thing with Match is that it upgrades all your songs to the highest-quality version it can, and it makes them available on all your devices with no syncing necessary. Nothing says you still can't sync to have local copies stored, but you can also download artists or albums (but not individual songs) through the service right to your device.
