Hello Shawn. Pages does not really cut it for people who really need to be productive. Here are two examples.
1. If you need to use tables in a document, They are not really accessible in Pages. True, you can go to a table in the layout area of Pages and work with it. However, it's difficult to determine exactly where tables reside while you're working in the body of a document. So, if you have multiple tables and you need to edit one of them then it's difficult or impossible to determine which table you are editing. When you're working in Microsoft Word with a screen reader there's no doubt where you are. 2. If you need to number paragraphs in a document for legal purposes or need to do an outline, Voiceover does not give you the paragraph numbers. The same is true for outlining. For these reasons it's impossible to examine the hierarchy of your documents or outlines. 3. Although you can apply styles to a document with the Style Drawer or from within the inspectors, I'm not sure that there's a way to determine what styles apply to which paragraphs. I'm sure that there are other productivity examples that can be cited. Believe me, I want the IWork suite to be a viable solution for people who really want to get serious work done and I look forward to that day. As of now, however, Pages and Numbers have not reached the level of accessibility that can be achieved in the office products with Screen Readers. If you can show me where I'm wrong in any of these circumstances, I encourage you to produce some podcasts or other tutorials showing us how you function in Pages and Numbers. Thanks so much. Welcome to the list. I've had my Mac for 2 years this November and I really like it. Even though I have a little vision, it's not enough to see the screen so I only use Voiceover. And contrary to what Paul was saying, I've used a combination of Iwork and Textedit and I've had no problems with neither one. Pages works like it should, and that's all I really need. HTH and I hope your wife takes the plunge. She'll have a lot of support if she does.
