That's why I leave new tabs set to blank. If I don't, then I get an html area loaded when I hit cmd-t or cmd-l and I focus on that instead of my edit box. Setting that preference to blank lets vo focus on, and remain on, the url field like it should. Who knows, maybe you can set it back to blank now and things will start working again? I'm grasping at straws, I know, but maybe toggling it will have been enough?
