Go to Notification Center's System preferences pane and see if you can find it in the applications table there. Check its settings so that Sounds, Banners and Badges are checked. Make sure the "Show in Notification Center," check box is checked, and, in the Options dialog right next door, check the boxes that say Mentions and Direct Messages. Then, wait til someone mentions you. I'm sure it won't be long.
