ok, but that is an IMac, that's totally different from the hardware for the
airplay with a mid 2010 macbook which it won't work. You apparently need an I5
processor for it to mirror things.

I use an iMac (purchased in 2010). I have it working with iTunes and AirPlay
on my setup, which includes a few Airport Expresses and a second generation
