There were two questions out there: 1. Is it possible to do port forwarding. Yes, I was quite able to forward WAM TCP ports to LAN devices. I am not quite sure if this is still possible, since the last time the Airport utility was upgraded, some of the advanced features like SNMP were removed from the configuration tool, but not from the Airport itself. Tidbits.com had a listing of all the changes when the new Airport Utility was introduced.
Is it a modem too? I assume here you are talking about a cable modem, though you could be talking about a VIOS modem or a Internet over powerlines modem. No, this would require too many different configurations or extraneous ports for Apple to do this. It is far simpler to add some router functions into a modem then it is to do the reverse, since IP (both v4 and v6) are over twisted pair and wireless do not change much. It might still be an advantage to you for either security or speed depending on the exact specifications of the modem/router you have. This could be especially important if you are using the Apple TV. One last note: The Airport Extreme USB port can also be used for attaching a disk drive. Best wishes, Jonathan Jonathan C.
