Hello, all! I have what is probably a very stupid question, but my
understanding of these things is extremely limited. I've
tried reading product reviews, but none of them answer my question. So, here it
goes. Can this airport extreme thingy be used
as a modem as well, or is it just a router? It sounds nice, but I'm over all
satisfied with the dsl modem/router combo I
have. I'm just interested in finding out more about this airport extreme
because it sounds so reliable, and even better than
that, accessible. If it can't be used as a modem, though, I'll probably just
stick with what I have; you know what they say:
if it ain't broke, don't fix it. LOL!
Anyway, any information you guys could provide would be extremely appreciated.
Missy

How difficult is it to do port forwarding with an Airport router?

I've had ours for 6 weeks or so, and I love it as well.
Set up was easy. I wasn't sure about the connections on the rear of the unit,
so I called an Apple store and asked if they'd
look at one and tell me which was the ethernet port.
We have a printer connected wirelessly. My plan is to connect an external hard
drive to that USB port.
I also like the airport utility. It is nice to be able to read the status of
the unit.

It was $180. Setup was mostly easy, it was fully accessible, and I think
our network is running faster than it did with the DLink, even when the
DLink worked. It also has a USB port, so you can connect a printer to it
and then access it on the network. I haven't set that up yet, so can't say
much about how well that works.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi all,

Thanks to all who posted on the router issue. I had a couple of glitches

getting the Extreme up and running, but got it resolved with a call to tech
support. And our network is not only stable once again, but seems
noticeably faster. If anyone's contemplating an airport extreme, I give it
a resounding thumbs up.

Cheers,

Donna
