Actually, it is possible to get additional voices for Snow Leopard, but unfortunately, they're not free. They're the acapella voices, and are very high quality. You can check them out at the following web site. http://www.assistiveware.com They're a bit pricy, but you can get 30 day trials for whatever voices you're interested in and then buy them after you've seen if they meet your needs. I ended up buying all of the English speaking acapella voices, and use Tracy as my system voice, although I still prefer Alex for Voceover. Good luck, and I hope this helps. _____

Hi Daniel, Can you get extra voices for your mac? I have the white macbook running snowleopard. If you can get voices, where do you get them from? On May 3, 2012, at 5:11 AM, Daniel Miller wrote: Hi, Yes, there is a way you can remove the voices. I'm going to paste in instructions. Using Finders great "Go to Folder" feature of Command+Shift+G enter the following path: /System/Library/Speech/Voices/ You'll see a list of voices, but notice they come in two formats: Voice and VoiceCompact, you can keep VoiceCompact because those are just the short samples, it's the Voice.SpeechVoice you want to delete to remove the full voice. For a quick example we'll get rid of Samantha - sorry Samantha, you sound lovely but you take up too much space - so we will be deleting Samantha.SpeechVoice. Select that folder and either drag it to the Trash or hit Command+Delete to place it there automatically. Because the voice files are contained in /System/ you will need to authenticate with the <http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/29/delete-voices-mac-os-x-lion/> administrator password in order to delete the file, so type that in, then you can empty the Trash. No more Samantha! I hope this helps! Do these compact voices slow the Mac computers down at all? I have downloaded a few of the premium ones but really can't see a use for most of the pre installed voices. I suspect the answer will be no but thought it worth asking. Thanks to all for help on mailbox issues. All sorted now.
