Hi,

I just tried it in Mail because I wasn't sure but, its the same process.  
Interact with the messages table, navigate to the items you want to select, 
press VO command space, press VO up or down to the next message you want to 
select and repeat as necessary.  You can then press VO F6 to see how many items 
you have selected.
