You will find times when a thick book or so;mething that you cannot keep flat without applying pressure is going to do better on a scanner. The Pearl has a fixed focus, meaning that if the document or book is to o thick it will be somewhat out of focus, and thus you will not get a good picture for recognition. Your choices then are to find something about the same thickness to place the camera on in order to get the text back in focus or place the document on a flatbed scanner to scan the document. The Hovercam with the DocuScan Plus works very nicely on the Mac once you get familiar with how to adjust the camera to just the right height to get the best picture. DocuScan Plus may not do everything that OpenBook does, but it does a lot and has many great features for $299, and once you purchase it you can use it both for Windows and Apple. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott Erichsen" <serich...@gmail.com> To: <macvisionaries@googlegroups.com> Sent: Monday, April 02, 2012 5:41 PM Subject: RE: A Question Regarding OCR > Hi Mark, > > The Pearl will only work with OpenBOok 9.0 and will only work under > windows. > > The two options that work with the Mac are the hoverCam with DocuScan Plus > from Serotek and the EyePal. > > Personally I like the Pearl and OpenBOok as the accuracy is fantastic from > everything I've scanned. > > Cheers. > > Scott > > -----Original Message----- > From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com > [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M.
