Pages can save and open RTF, Doc and DOcx formats to name a few. Unless you 
pull down the disclose option I think it is called in save as you will find 
your documents are saved in pages format. As for open office I am not sure 
because I have never used it. I wonder if its more accessible. I have tried 
looking for it on the app store but never found it.
