Hi Greg, Nancy, and Others, I've only just picked up Nisus Writer Pro myself, with the incentive of this bundled price. However, based on the discussion of this app on the Mac-access list the problem with tables still appearing embedded in documents, and not being read directly (similar to the situation in Pages), is still present. The developers are aware of this issue. In most other respects, people who have purchased Nisus Writer Pro seem to like working with it better than Pages. I'll point you to the middle of the discussion thread about this in Mail Archive pages for the Mac-access list. You can read the comments about the issue with tables for yourself, and you can also read the other comments about this software: • Re: Nisus Writer Pro 2.0 Versus Pages; [Revisited] http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/msg00129.html To read previous posts in the thread in Safari on the Mac, use Control+p, and to read down the thread to the next posts, use Control+n. For other browsers substitute the appropriate access key for "Control" (e.g. "Alt" for Internet Explorer, etc.)
Greg, for reading embedded tables, the work-around I use is to activate the service menu option for "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" under Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences by checking the option for this service. Then, when I'm reading a document and come to a page with an embedded table, I select the page and apply the keyboard shortcut I've assigned to the "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" service. Focus shifts to the TextEdit window which contains the table, and VoiceOver automatically reads out the content. When you use the service menu option to send your selection to TextEdit, not only does this work faster and more efficiently than doing a copy and paste, but you automatically strip out surrounding delimiters that prevent your selected content from being identified as text and just read. That's why this service menu option can also be used in a number of instances to read badly coded web pages with accessibility issues. A quick way to get to the System Preferences for Services is to select some text (doesn't have to be in Safari, can be in another application, such as mail), then navigate to the Services menu on the menu bar (e.g., Control+F2 or VO+m to the menu bar, navigate (VO+Right arrow) to the application, arrow down and navigate to the Services menu option (quickly type "s e r" then press return), right arrow to the Services submenu and press Command+Down arrow to move to the "Services Preferences" option at the end of the submenu and press return. You'll be placed directly in the Keyboard shortcuts pane, with the advantage that "Services" will already be selected in the first table of "Keyboard Shortcuts Categories". So you only need to navigate to the second "Keyboard Shortcuts Table", interact, then navigate to the entry for "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" and check it. Just move to the end of the table (VO+Shift+End or VO+Fn+Shift+Right Arrow on a laptop), then VO+Left Arrow to the column with the shortcut description. You only have to VO+Up arrow a few times to get to the "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" shortcut (in Snow Leopard). VO+Left Arrow to the column with the check box and check it (VO+Space). Then VO+Right Arrow past the description column to the column for shortcuts, press return, and type in your new shortcut (I'm using Option+Shift+Command+W). Stop interacting with the table and use Command+W to close the window. Then, just select some text to apply your service menu shortcut and send it to a TextEdit window. Command+Tab back to return to your Nisus Writer Pro or Pages application. HTH. Cheers, Esther On Dec 10, 2011, at 17:25, Greg Aikens wrote: > How does Nisus handle tables with VO?
