Oh, well, an MBox is a high quality sound card. Normally, if you record through the sound card in your Mac you won't get the quality you need to do really good multi-track recording and mixing.
MBoxes come in different flavours but essentially the cheapest one you can use is theMini, It has 2 big jack inputs you can use to plug a guitar or keyboard in, and it also has Phantum power which you'll need if you've got any condencer Microphones. The pro also has a midi interface built in but, if you're wanting to record your keyboard, you can get midi into your computer more cheaply than having to get the pro. Before Pro tools 9, the way you got into pro tools was to buy an MBox which is made by the same people that make Pro tools, Digidesign, and you got the mbox and the latest version of pro tools. I bought mine new on Ebay about 15 months ago for around 250 bucks. If you're thinking about it, You will need an MBox 2, not the mbox 1, that won't work with pro tools 8. You'll also ideally need one that was bought with pro tools 8 not 7, otherwise you'll have to buy the upgrade from Digidesign. 3rdly make sure that it comes with the software and the serial number, otherwise you won't be able to run PT on your system.
