Hi,

Are you using the latest version of Garageband that came with iLife 11?  Its 
Garageband 6, and the latest version is 6.04.  I'm not sure but, maybe the 
latency is do to your midi set up.  I'm not exactly sure why this would be but, 
I'm using a USB connection from my board to my Mac and I don't recall seeing 
this problem.  Try turning on the on screen keyboard with command shift K, then 
trying to play using the keys of your macbook.  See if you latency problem 
exists when even playing the software instruments via this method.
