Yeah, row one expanded or Adium has new window happen here, too, but not repeatedly, unless someone is playing silly buggers on the messenger, in which case those people find themselves summarily blocked and taunted... It doesn't really bother me, but I agree that Adium is a bit unwieldy, especially when it comes to configuring growl or reading messages or dealing with multiple conversations or sending stuff or video stuff... *shrug*
