Hi Matt: I've spent too many hours with Vuescan. I so wanted it to work, and I have on occasion gotten it to read some things. But, the set-up is pretty strange, or perhaps I'm just not getting something. I have trouble configuring how/where to save files. When I do get it to scan, it lacks orientation as you said, and takes around 25-30 seconds a page. I've been very very disappointed. Have to say for the average mac user the iPhone and prism would probably be a better bet. Incidentally, I did contact Freedom Science-fiction re my scanning needs. The person I spoke to was unaware of any attempts by FS to address scanning with the Mac. That's a sad thing, as playing ostrich and hoping people will just keep forking out money for Jaws-based solutions forever is really likely to hurt FS.
