I use VueScan for basic Snailmail and small document scanning with w Lied90 scanner. I do not have the latest update though. I find that, yes, sometimes you have to flip the page around or over until the orientation is correct, but since I'm usually listening to good music or chatting with friends anyway, I don't whine about it, and can't understand those who do, since I can remember having to ask another person what the document was, which ... well. But I rant. Point is, I find its basic OCR routine is adequate for plain text that's fairly well printed, but will get easily confused by smudges or poor print quality, etc.
