Today's optical drive is yesterday's floppy. Remember, it was painful at first to not have a floppy especially if you were a technical professional but after a while that requirement went away for the most part (few exceptions) and it's jus natural now not to have a floppy.
Same with CD and DVD drives. You can do anything over the network anyway so what's the point.
