Are you by any chance plugging this device into a usb hub? If so is it powered? (not via the usb but by an external power supply) Many devices require a certain amount of juice to allow them to be accessed correctly and many unpowered hubs will not pass through the correct amount of power for a given device to stay active on a given system. If it s not powered this is the most likely cause of the sudden ejection of the device. Try plugging it directly into the Mac and see if it still spontaneously ejects.
