Are you by any chance plugging this device into a usb hub?  If so is
it powered? (not via the usb but by an external power supply) Many
devices require a certain amount of juice to allow them to be accessed
correctly and many unpowered hubs will not pass through the correct
amount of power for a given device to stay active on a given system.
If it s not powered this is the most likely cause of the sudden
ejection of the device.  Try plugging it directly into the Mac and see
if it still spontaneously ejects.

Otherwise get an sd card reader and put the SD card in that.
