Hello Mary, OK, I understand now. What you need is GhostReader if what you want to do is just read a document.
With GhostReader, you can skip any number of sentences or paragraphs and GhostReader will pick up immediately. I use this application for reading the original version of the document I'm translating. It runs happily in the background, so I can work in Pages while listening in GhostReader. If you have voices from Infovox iVox, you may well have GhostReader already.
