I really don't think that was the problem, as I use quick nav quite a bit. The strange behavior seems to have subsided though. I reinstalled OSx and thus went back to Safari 4 for the time being. I kept all my files and settings though. My Macbook seems slightly quirky at times, but is working pretty well for now. Thanks for all your suggestions! :)
