It is hard, really; hard and failure-prone. Unfortunately copy and paste 
doesn’t work everywhere, though it should. Notable examples are attaching email 
messages in Mail by dragging messages from the message list into the composer 
window, or extracting books from the Books app as files by dragging them out of 
the books window and into a Finder folder. This is, I suggest, part of the 
longstanding technical debt that’s piling up in Apple software these days.
