The status bar is NOT the same as the menu bar. And the status bar
has always been available.

Yes windowed apps has to be enabled. And yes third party keyboards work.
The Fn plus M should work but perhaps only on Apple keyboards, I cannot test
this.

your finger off the screen. This same gesture will get rid of the menu as well.
It is close to the same gesture that is used to bring up the dock only you do
it from the status bar.
