I vaguely remember in the past when I delved into Disk Utility and deleted snapshots. Don't remember why but its been ages since I had issues and the snapshot table is empty which is good.

If the Time Machine backup is A P F S formatted, then TimeMachine probably
made several snapshots and even though you deleted things they are still there

You should be able to remove these with disk utility.
I haven’t tried what you are doing, I am just taking my understanding of
computers for a ride.
AI will probably give you a better answer but it might be worth checking if you
have snapshots.

I have TM backups of two Macs on the same volume. Have never had trouble
with this. TM on either Mac is pointed to the same volume, but different folder.

It won’t let me use that volume because I’ve used it to back up a different
computer. I have deleted all the backups of my old Mac, so I don’t understand
why this is even an issue.

Time Machine? You need to go into its settings and create the folder there.

Hi all,

I’m trying to get my new M4 MBA to backup using the same disk I used for the
old Mac. I have given the new MBA a different name, but when I tried to back
it up, it created a separate volume on the disk. Is there any way I can force
it to use the original Volume, and just create a new folder?
Thanks,
Donna
