If the Time Machine backup is A P F S formatted, then TimeMachine probably made several snapshots and even though you deleted things they are still there in the snapshots. You should be able to remove these with disk utility. I haven’t tried what you are doing, I am just taking my understanding of computers for a ride. AI will probably give you a better answer but it might be worth checking if you have snapshots.
