It shouldn’t matter what architecture you were using in the past, because all your binaries are (or are likely to be, by now) so-called “fat” (“Universal”) binaries with support for both Apple Silicon and Intel. Any Intel-only apps will run under Rosetta. Your Time Machine backup no longer contains system files either, just the content of your data volume which is basically all user-supplied data and apps, and these should be compatible. The code that performs migration during installation is also accessible after installation during the first-time setup, or from Migration Assistant, and there is logic to copy all your data from the data volume, or the backup of a data volume made by Time Machine, to the right spots in the new system.
