Herbie’s instructions were perfectly clear.  You don’t cut and paste files and 
folders, to remove them from their original location and put them in a new 
place.  You copy and move them.  What is confusing is the menu, which lists 
command x in the edit menu of the finder, but it does not list command shift V 
for move.  I have no idea why Apple made that choice.  Herbie is right. But the 
menu is sort of misleading.  At least, it is on my Mac.  The moral of the story 
is you should always listen to Herbie.
